Upside Agency | Minneapolis
The result
After headshots were finished, we moved into the storytelling portion, creating different scenes around the office space and having employees interact with one another. The bright, organized office space provided the perfect backdrop for a multitude of interactions.
The client
Upside Agency is a Minneapolis based agency that brings a holistic approach to brands along with amazing ideas and products to mass retail spaces. The agency was in the process of a rebrand and wanted new images for their website.
The approach
This type of shoot is the bread and butter of Headshot Stories, combining all of our favorite aspects into one session: headshots, storytelling, and environmental photography.
We started with a headshots for each employee, giving each individual two different experiences. The first was on a simple white background fully lit with three different lights, giving a clean, professional “Steve Jobs” vibe to the portrait. The second gave each individual the chance to show a little more raw emotion and expression, using natural light and industrial background.

Matt Farris | Car Collector & Specialist
Back story
This session came upon organically. Lucas was out taking photos for fun in South Minneapolis and was approached by Matt. After chatting for a few minutes, he shared his passion and career of fixing up classic cars and mentioned he was in need of content for a website revamp. A match made in heaven.
Matt prides himself on craftsmanship, precision, and attention to detail with every car the enters his shop just outside of the Twin Cities. It was crucial to make this story session reflect those aspects of him as a professional and human being.
Story execution
After a tour of the garage, it was apparent there were several different pockets of space we could utilize. His work bench, welding station, and floor space set a great stage. Additionally, shooting from a loft area gave a bird’s eye view while Matt worked.
The cars themselves proved to work well for environmental backdrops and gave variety for posing and action. The shop had a bright and clean feel lighting-wise, giving us the chance the use open garage doors for a natural light option. Two different artificial lights were used to create even light on Matt’s face and some fill/backlight when necessary.

Ramsey County Recycle
Vision
Photographing a county recycling program presented an interesting challenge - how to visually showcase the importance and impact of recycling in a compelling way. To do this, we focused on incorporating real people and their stories into the photo shoot.
Impact
Metre (the marketing team) was able to identify individuals who had been personally impacted by the program, whether through a reduction in waste or financial savings. Then set up a photoshoot at their homes or businesses, using a lifestyle photography approach to capture candid, natural shots of them going about their daily lives. By highlighting the personal benefits of recycling, we were able to create a series of compelling and relatable images that effectively promoted the county's recycling program. These photos were used in marketing materials and on social media to raise awareness about the program and its benefits.
